Today, the question of whether life is meaningful or not has become a prevalent topic of discussion. But what is the relationship between this concept and pleasure—a term frequently used to describe human life and considered one of its primary ideals? Given the variety of theories proposed about the meaning of life, it is necessary to address this question by examining these diverse perspectives. Consequently, this study utilizes a descriptive-analytical approach to investigate the relationship between pleasure and the understanding of life’s meaning within naturalistic theories. The study concludes that, according to subjective naturalism, there is an equivalence between instances of pleasure and the meaningfulness of life. This point highlights the interdependence of the perceptual forms of these two concepts. On the other hand, according to objective naturalism, the relationship between instances of pleasure and the meaning of life is one of absolute generality and peculiarity. This indicates that, within these theories, the perceptual form of life’s meaning necessitates pleasure but not vice versa.
